9 TIPS FOR DEEP CLEANING YOUR HOME

Updated: Jan 5, 2021

Sometimes, even weekly surface cleanings just don’t cut it to keep your home clean. If your house has experienced a major event such as a fire or flood, renovation or remediation, tackling the cleanup can be an even more daunting task.

The truth is, doing a deep clean can present special challenges both because of the extent of cleaning needed and the difficulty of certain cleaning tasks. These nine tips can give you that extra bit of cleaning muscle to make short work of the most challenging deep clean tasks.

  1. End toilet odour once and for all Do you clean your toilet over and over again, only to have the same icky odour keep returning? If you find yourself nodding your head “yes,” it may not be the bowl that is producing the odour. Most people have never even heard of toilet siphons. These are the openings inside the toilet bowl where the clean water rushes through from the tank to help push out waste. Over time, these siphons can accumulate particulate waste matter. The warm, wet atmosphere inside the toilet bowl can quickly become a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi. What you need to do is to put some duct tape over the siphons to seal them off. Next, empty the water out of the toilet tank. Then pour some white cleaning vinegar into the tank. Flush the toilet, and then let it sit overnight. In the morning, remove the duct tape and admire your shiny, clean toilet siphons. For bowl stains, baking soda and a damp pumice stone is the way to go. Don’t forget to clean the toilet bowl brush too to keep germs from spreading.

  2. Mops, dust pans, and brooms need cleaning too It is all too easy to pick up your dustpan and broom, mop or big broom and use it to clean up dust and debris without even thinking that the tool itself could use a deep clean once in a while too. There are two awesome ways to clean your cleaning tools. The first is to vacuum your brooms and mops. Use a vacuum attachment to suck up all the small dust and debris particles trapped in the bristles of your brooms and mops. For an even deeper clean, fill a pail with warm water and some dish soap. Soak your broom, mop and dustpan in this solution for 30 to 60 minutes. For a quicker clean, spray them with disinfectant or a solution of one part bleach to two parts water.

  3. Tackle your porcelain sink with baking soda Porcelain is so beautiful when it is new, but over time it can crack and stain just like any other well-used home fixture. Porcelain can be fragile — is there any way to restore it to look new again? There is a way, and it’s actually very simple and affordable. For deep cleaning, mix one part ammonia and one part baking soda, then soak a sponge in the mixture. Scrub, scrub, scrub some more, and then rinse. If your porcelain sink has rust stains, what you need is regular table salt and fresh lemon juice. Sprinkle this mixture over the stain, let it soak in for 30 minutes, then scrub. Repeat until the stain disappears.

  4. Wash those pillows Have you ever looked at your yellowing bed pillows and felt an urge to just chuck them and go buy some new ones? Fortunately, we have a tip for you that means you don’t have to go nearly this far to get back to the fresh, clean, new pillows you long for. For regular cleaning, hang your pillows outside on a clothesline —the sun’s ultraviolet rays are still the best natural purifiers around. Twice per year, launder and dry your pillows in your washer and dryer just like you do your clothes. When you are ready to dry your pillows, add a couple of tennis balls to the dryer to keep the filling from clumping up.

  5. Give your stove burners a new life No one feels inspired to cook on stove burners that remind you of every other dinner you’ve previously cooked. When you find out how easy it is to clean up your stove burners, you may feel surprised you didn’t think of this yourself! For simple stains, just turn the burners on and let them burn away cooking spills. For tougher spills, cool your burners, then sprinkle on equal parts baking soda and water. Wait 20 minutes, and then scrub them clean with a sponge, rinse and replace.

  6. Restore the shine to your smooth top stove cooktop Baking soda and white vinegar are all you need to put the shine back into your smooth top cooktop. First, wipe down your stovetop with the white vinegar. Next, sprinkle baking soda over your cooktop. Then cover the baking soda surface with a wet towel, using it to scrub away caked-on matter. Then finish up with another round of white vinegar.

  7. Give your cloth couch new life Over time, cloth couches can accumulate stains and other blemishes, making you daydream about getting a brand new couch. Fortunately, there is a way to restore your cloth couch to its former glory without the expense of a new couch. First, identify your couch material. You can usually find this information located on the manufacturer tag and will tell you what kind of cleaner to use. Next, brush or vacuum your couch to remove debris. Then follow the directions on the cleaning solution to spot clean your couch. Let it air dry with the help of a fan.

  8. Spot-clean area rugs to perfection A little ultraviolet sunlight and carpet detergent can go a long way towards restoring your area rugs. First, vacuum your rugs on both sides. Next, hang them outside on a sunny day for some purifying UV light. Look at the manufacturer’s tag to find out what carpet shampoo to use for the rug material. Follow the shampoo instructions to wash and rinse the rug. Let it air dry.

  9. Say goodbye to bathtub rings The perfect remedy for bathtub rings is white vinegar. Add one part white vinegar and one part plain water to a spray bottle. Spritz this solution onto the tub ring, wait 15 minutes, then scrub and rinse. To learn more about deep cleaning your home and to schedule your service today, give us a call at +91-6290398692.
